What's Your Favorite Age?

July 09, 2012

I love newborns. I love everything about the newborn phase. I love the way they smell and the way they curl up and put their head on your shoulder. The way they stare up at you so intently when you are feeding them or holding them. What I don't like is the lack of sleep I got when I had a newborn. That had to be the most challenging. Not to mention how drained I was when I had other children to take care of.  I would say the easiest phase for me was when my children were about 7 months old. They were stationary, sleeping through the night and so was I! It made things a heck of a lot easier in my house. I could care for my other children and make dinner all while the baby was either in his/her exersaucer, swing or pack n' play! Life seemed a bit more enjoyable..that is until they started crawling and walking! I didn't get much done once again. The good news is I made it through and I know you will too!

So, What's your favorite age? As we all know mine is the "stationary" one! I know everyone has their own preference. Here's an interesting study that was done:

Out of over 60,000 Norwegian  mothers, the happiest time for them was after birth until about 6 months. Their happiness actually decreased until the child was about 3 years old. My guess is that they feel the same as Americans do. We all know how hard the toddler years are! It can be quite challenging dealing with a toddler's tantrums and their frequent use of the word "No." I can only imagine that it takes a toll on us parents.

I have to say while I love my two-year-old dearly, I'm not a huge fan of his behavior sometimes. He has a tendency to go from zero-60 in no time flat. He's got a master's degree in toddler tantrums and a minor in meltdowns! I do however love when he cuddles with me and how we sing together before his nap and his bedtime. I love when he finishes the end of the stories I read him too. I hate to wish these years away I really do. I guess I wish I could just wish away the terrible two's! I also have a 7-year-old and a four-year-old. I have to say they both have their share of meltdowns also. Not quite as many as my youngest. If I had to pick between those two ages who's the easiest, I would say my oldest child is easier. Maybe it's because he's a little more self-sufficient. Although, maybe it's because he's a boy!

What's your favorite age and why?
